- Inglorious Basterds Trailer
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5sQhTVz5IjQ
Througout the clip you can clearly see this film is about the second world war, with old army uniforms, moustaches, the 'Nazi' sign, the types of weapons and also a scene with Hitler, the iconography is obvious.
You instantly know the film will contain bloody violence as words such as 'exterminate' are splattered in blood on a white background in little clips throughout the trailer, this clearly connotes the genre to the audience.
The clip starts off at a reasonably fast pace and only gets faster throughout, as the rock music in the background gets angryer and angryer you instantly tell and it also connotes straight to the point that this is an action packed, bloody, violent film.
Also we are introduced to the characters, the shots specify who the main characters our, Brad Pitt the main chief, is shown by low angle shots and close ups, this expresses to the audience the power and respect of the character, also the amount of times he is shown compared to the other characters shows us he is the main man.
One clip shows a 'stereotypical' blonde haired, good looking woman shooting a gun, this could suggest to the audience that there also may be some war time romance in the film, making it a hybrid as it has a few possible types of genre.
The brand of the Nazi sign on a mans forhead again anchors the point across to the audience that its WW2.
Brad Pitt has a scar on his neck, clearly showed to the audience. This could be a signifier to the audience that hes an experienced soldier and thats why he is taking control of his army, this is also backed up by the low angle shots of him to signify to the audience that he is the boss and hes powerful.
As we get further and further through the clip the the music and the pace of the film gets faster and faster, bullets get fired, explosions and also the rate at which the blood gets splattered onto the white backgrounds also becomes faster and the sound is louder.
Close up of a blonde lady firing a gun signifies to the audience that she also might be a main character in the film.
A visual bridge of a man about to get his head smashed by a baseball bat leads to bloody writing being splattered onto the wall.
More and more mid shots of men firing guns point blank at things shows just how much action is going to be in the movie.
The first shot of the trailer is a long shot over many tall sky scrapers, a view of the city. The tall buildings represent to the audience a 'capitalist society' suggesting the film may all be about money and power, big players fighting to get what they want.
The shot then goes from a long shot and zooms into the main character (tom cruise) whilst zooming tension is created as a high pitch noise becomes louder with the zoom.
It zooms out from a close up shot of toms face and a visual bridge is created as he is now in his headquarters talking to a computer. The gadgets are then shown and then this clearly shows that the main character is a spy and this is going to be an action film.
There is many long shots of explosion, fighting, gun battles In civilian areas aswell as in planes and helicopters.
Again tension is created as the music, which plays a big part in making the trailer what it is goes quiet and then a beep which is a countdown to an explosion then is heard, then cuts straightback into the action with an almight explosion.
Tom is seen running and being followed using a tracking shot, this is conventional connotation as it makes the audience believe that he is being followed.
The M:I:3 theme tune is then set off and all the action is shown aswell as audio bridges of characters arguing whilst guns are going off etc etc. This all works together to show that this trailer anchors the action genre of the film.
